Our planned museum will preserve and display the various modes of transportation that brought the United States and Japan together. Our primary focus will be on light aircraft and railcars, with a limited display of road vehicles and maritime history.
For our initial Phase 1 build-out, we anticipate displaying aircraft and railcars in one common hangar/shed.
Airplanes, helicopters, defense and space exploration
The Mitsubishi MU-2 is a Japanese high-wing, twin-engine turboprop aircraft with a pressurized cabin, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries from 1963 to 1986. It is notable for its advanced design, including over-wing spoilers for roll control instead of conventional ailerons, which allows the use of full-span double-slotted flaps.
The MU-2 is one of the most commercially successful civil aircraft with Japanese roots, which makes its acquisition our top priority.
Automobiles and Railroads
The Tokyu GCRTA EMU (nicknamed Airporter II) is a Japanese built suburban EMU manufactured by Tokyu Car and in use with the Greater Cleveland Rapid Transit Authority (GCRTA). It was first delivered in 1984. It is one of the few rail cars built by Tokyu for use in the United States.
The Airpoter II is planned to retire in 2027, and JATHO is making plans to acquire it as our first major artifact.
Civil and military ships
JATHO has successfully acquired an Engine Telegraph Transmitter manufactured by NZK (Nippon Zosen Kikai). This will be one of our first maritime related artifacts on display.
